Frequently Asked Questions

What the heck is Disc Golf?

Yes we still hear that one. Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc. Disc golf shares many terms with traditional golf. Par, birdies, bogeys, aces( hole in one). A great introduction with video can be found on the Professional Disc Golf Association's Introduction Page. PDGA Introduction

Where can I play?

In Windsor/Essex, we have a beautiful 18 hole course at Lakewood Park in Tecumseh. The front 9 is designed to challenge the rec player (red), while the back 9 is designed to challenge the Int/Adv (white). One set of pads and baskets. Each hole has a sign showing the hole number, par and distance. Park in the North parking lot off Riverside drive and proceed east (left) along the pathway. There is a course sign on your right near two practice baskets. Hole number one is just past the practice baskets. See the course map at the bottom of this page. The course is on Udisc.

In 2020 the Town of Amhertburg added a 6 hole 'Aceplace' in Beaudoin Park. This course is great for beginners and families as the holes are all short. Established players will enjoy the ace challenge as well. Beaudoin Park is located just west of the bridge in River Canard behind St Joseph Catholic Church. The Course is on Udisc.

New in 2021 is the Patillo Orchard Disc Course located in the Patillo Family Orchard off Patillo Road in Lakeshore. Is there a fee to play? Do I need to book a tee time?

Lakewood Disc Golf Course is part of a public park. There is no fee to play! Reservations are not necessary. Just show up, wait your turn and start playing. The next closest courses are in St Thomas and Michigan. Michigan has over 300 courses!

Where do I get a disc or set of discs?

Some club members offer discs for sale but generally discs are purchased online. Sites like Amazon.ca and toplinkdiscgolf have 3 disc starter sets. Toplink is an Ontario retailer #shoplocal! You can also rent a 3 disc set from Lakewood Ice Cream at the park. The cost is $5/day and some of the proceeds go towards helping the Disc Golf Club.

Can I play with a traditional Frisbee disc?

You can but It's much more difficult. We strongly recommend playing with the proper disc golf discs from one of the many manufacturers.

When is disc golf played?

Disc golf is played year round. Yes, even in winter. We can't recommend throwing a white disc in the snow. Check with WEDG for course conditions. Heavy spring and fall rains will cause flooding. Generally some kind of waterproof boot may be required.

How do I keep track of my score?

We recommend an app called UDisc. The Lakewood course is in their directory. Available in both the App Store and Google Play UDisc
