Windsor Essex Disc Golf offers an education program to area schools. There are two options.

PLEASE NOTE THAT OPTION 2 IS ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Option 1

WEDG can meet your class at the 18 hole Lakewood course in Tecumseh. The beautiful Lakewood course offers students the best introduction to the game. No setup is required. Students will learn the game on an official course in a beautiful park setting. WEDG provides a rental disc, scorecards (if applicable), basic instruction, rules and etiquette. This setting is far superior to the Schoolyard setup. Cost is only $3.50 per student. Maximum 50 students. Session is 90 minutes to 2 hours in length.

For the 2023-2024 School year this option is NOT available. A representative of WEDG will travel to your school and set up a mini course in your schoolyard. We can provide up to 6 baskets on the course depending on space. Some student assistance is required for setup. WEDG provides a rental disc, scorecards (if applicable), basic instruction, rules and etiquette. Cost is an hourly rate plus a setup fee. Please contact WEDG for a quote and specfics on how many students can participate at a time.

Transportation to Lakewood Park is the responsibility of the School.

Testimonials

"I had Ron visit my school last year to introduce disc golf to my Grade 6 students. He showed up early in the morning and set up a course around our school grounds. He gave a brief lesson on proper throwing techniques and also taught the students how to keep score (similar to golf rules). My class LOVED it. They were able to play two rounds and were immediately addicted, asking to play more. It is a great sport for many reasons. It allows for team building, communication, collaboration, laughter, provides exercise and most importantly, it can be played by students with a wide range of athletic ability. Even my students that don't really enjoy "sports", loved disc golf. I can't wait to have Ron back this year and also take my kids to Lakewood so they can play on the real course." Jaime Patillo, Grade 6 Teacher, Northwood Public School.

"I would highly recommend having Ron come out to your school. Ron’s passion and enthusiasm for the game is contagious. He set up a 6-hole course at Tecumseh Vista Academy for our grade 5 students and they had a blast. He kept the instructions simple and focused his time and energy on making sure the students had FUN. They loved playing a new challenging game outside with their friends. Many of the students had never played the game before and this was an awesome way to get them exposed to the game." Tyler Thompson, Grade 5 French Immersion @ Tecumseh Vista Academy

"A big thank you to Ron and Ryan who spent their day with General Amherst High School students today. They were extremely organized and professional. The sport of disc golf was brand new to every student. After trying it, the students were pleasantly surprised at how well they did and how much fun it was. The students quickly caught on and achieved success thanks to Ron and Ryan’s excellent but brief instructions. They had the option of keeping track of score but most students played non-competitively. It was so rewarding to see their throws triple in length from the beginning of the period to the end. One student mentioned: “Amherstburg is a small town so we need a disc golf course to give us something fun to do”. This exposure to a new sport was exciting for everyone!" Lisa Voakes General Amherst High School Phys Ed Teacher.

"We were able to take about 50 of our Gr. 5, 6 & 7 students out on the Lakewood course today. Even though it was a puddle-filled day, the kids had a great time! Ron provided an incredibly organized morning that included how to play, tutoring small groups in throwing & putting techniques, a putting contest as well as a guest speaker from Tecumseh Parks department. I look forward to making this an annual trip with my students! " Danielle Piche Coronation Public School

"I was able to take 3 different groups (grade 3, 5 & 6 students) out to Lakewood course over 3 days. Even though the course was a little wet in areas the students had a blast! Ron and Rick provided an organized morning for each group that included how to play, small group instructions on throwing and putting techniques. At the end of each morning each group had a putting contest...which the kids became overly competitive!! Overall, every class had a great time!! Definitely be going again!! Thank you WEDG!" Breean Trubyk, Herman Academy.
